Jos Verstappen secured a podium finish in the ADAC Saarland-Pfalz Rallye. Together with his co-driver Renaud Jamoul, he brought his Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 home in third place in Sankt Wendel, in this round of the Deutschen Rallye Meisterschaft (DRM).
The rally took place over two days and featured six demanding stages, each driven twice. Jos faced tough competition from established drivers in the German championship. After the four stages on Friday, the driver from Limburg was classified fourth, just over half a minute behind Marijan Griebel.
Saturday’s schedule consisted of eight more tests across four different stages: Urexweiler (8.35 km), Numborn (18.20 km), Rödelstein (10.69 km) and Breitsester Wald (12.10 km).
Jos opened the day with third (+7.7s) and fourth (+12.9s) place on the first two stages, before taking another pair of third places (+1.5s and +1.2s) on the second loop of those stages. With Griebel topping the timesheets on all four stages, Jos remained fourth overall with four stages left.
Drama struck on stage nine when Julius Tannert, who was second overall, crashed out of the rally. Jos, who placed third on stage nine (+7.7s), moved up into third place overall. He followed up with P4 (+7.2s) on stage ten and P3 (+2.8s) on stage eleven.
On the final stage of the event, Verstappen lost more than a minute (P15), but fortunately it made no difference to the final classification. Jos and Renaud finish the Saarland-Pfalz Rallye with a third place overall, behind Marijan Griebel and Philip Geipel, the leaders of the German championship.
