The qualification training of Jos was one with a lot of adjustments to the car in between his session. Again he suffered a lot of understeer. With his last attempt to sharpen his time, only five minutes before the end of the training, it started to rain. Position for Jos on the starting grid will be 16 with a time of 1:23.531

A well done pole position for Damon Hill in 1:20.330, followed by Villeneuve in second place at a distance of only 0.009 seconds. A good third place there was for Alesi, and the strong impression of Schumacher during the weekend, finally resulted in fourth place. See Portugal Grand Prix Results for all times.

It's still wet on the circuit making it difficult for fast times, but the times were better then friday during free practice. During the second free practice session, Jos blew up his engine after 11 rounds. He finally ended at 18th position in a time. The free practice was won by Michael Schumacher in a time of 1:21.858.
