Jos still on his way to Durban

Published on 26 January 2006 by Thorsten Hendriks

Yesterday evening Jos Verstappen and his manager Huub Rothengatter left for Johannesburg, but have not arrived in Durban. They had a lot of delay at the airport and touched down at Johannesburg airport at noon today. When we get to talk to him he is driving the 500km from Johannesburg to Durban by car. "It's quite a drive but at least I get to see something of this country." according to Jos who looks at it from the positive side. "And it is quite fun with Huub in the car."

It was snowing when Jos and Huub left The Netherlands, now they are driving through a rainy South Africa. It doesn't bother then and Jos keeps a good mood despite he saw his chief engineer Graham Taylor leave to take up a job with the Super Aguri F1 team. Taylor has been succeeded by Frenchman Bernard Freneix, and experienced Formula Nippon, Japanese F3000 and Sportscars engineer.

We will try to contact Jos later again when he has seen the circuit and met all of A1GP Team Netherlands after a winter break of nearly two months. This weekend teamboss Jan Lammers won't be there, he is racing in the 24 hours of Daytona. Jos and his manager are having fun: "it's just like old times", we can hear Huub shout indicating that they have done this many times before during Jos' racing career when they were going to the various circuits.
