Fifth time during first free practice in Durban

Published on 27 January 2006 by Thorsten Hendriks

Jos Verstappen has set a fifth fastest lap time in Durban, 1.5 seconds behind fastest Indonesia. After his first outing Jos seems a bit more enthusiastic, but that is not due to the track. "No, the track is a tricky one. It's very bumpy and there are hardly any possibilities to overtake. The car is doing great. The weather is not ideal. I drove my fastest lap on a wet track. If we would compare our lap times with the others under similar circumstances we would be faster than them. My new engineer Bernard Freneix has done a good job, the car is very fast."

Despite he has only one car to his disposal Jos is far from careful. "doesn't work like that. If you have to go out and you are afraid you might damage the car, you might as well stay in the pitbox. It's just a case of going as fast as you can."
