In the morning training sessions, on a wet circuit, Jos Verstappen trained second after Michael Schumacher in his Arrows at testraces on the windy circuit of Estoril. Verstappen was only .37 seconds slower than Schumacher. He was 1.84 seconds faster than the third qualifier, Eddy Irvine, in his Ferrari.
