Jos: 'Issue needs solved to finish races'

Published on 19 April 2015 by Stefan Meens

For the third time in four races, Max Verstappen failed to see the finish of a Grand Prix due to issues. Father and mentor Jos Verstappen explained from the Bahrain paddock: “From the second lap, Max experienced issues with the electrical part of the engine, the Energy Recovery System (ERS). It meant Max had to dial the engine back to 'safe' mode. It meant he lacked power and top speed. In the end, the whole system failed so Renault decided to retire the car.”

“This is a weekend we want to forget about quickly because failing to finish in three out of for races is far from positive”, explains Jos. “But we are looking forward to the next Grand Prix in Spain. However, Renault has to come up with something because in this situation, the updates that Toro Rosso brings along cannot be used to their full potential. So the main thing is to get the engine issues sorted out so we can finish the races.”
