After the race in Canada, the FIA announced that Max Verstappen has been chosen “Driver of the Day”. Globally Formula 1-aficionados chose the young Dutchman instead of Valtteri Bottas and others. He was also a serious contender for the prize due to his podium finish.
The fans will undoubtedly have appreciated the epic battle between Max and Nico Rosberg during the closing stages of the race. In a truly remarkable manner, he was able to fend off the German in his superior Mercedes lap after lap.
In the penultimate lap, it seemed that the youngster would eventually still have to bow his head to the much higher top speed of the Mercedes. Nothing could be further from the truth, as Rosberg was pushed to the left on the long straight away and by braking very late himself, Max forced the leader in the standings into making a costly mistake, this results in him spinning off track and abruptly ends the fight.
This is the second time Max Verstappen has been chosen “Driver of the Day”. In Spain, where he won the race, the Red Bull Racing-driver was also awarded this prize. Earlier this season, Romain Grosjean experienced the same, namely for the races in Australia and Bahrain.
