Jos: “Max is really fast and looks after his tyres”

Brimming with paternal pride, father Jos Verstappen stood below the podium on the Red Bull Ring. His son had just taken a leap of joy getting on the second place spot. “Magnificent. It was a very exciting race”, Jos tells Ziggo Sport about his son’s second podium finish. “We didn’t know if Max was going to come back in or not. Sauber opened our eyes, so we went for the long stint and we tried to go to the end. And we pulled it off.”

“Max has done 56 laps on one set of tyres. He managed to go quite a distance with them”, Jos explains about the last stint, in which Max managed to go longer on his set of tyres than anyone else. “Max is really fast and looks after his tyres. Those are Max’ strong points.”

‘Max drove a solid race in Austria. Even in the beginning of the race with his overtakes on his team mate and some other drivers. That was well executed. He had total control. By now, we all know how well Max is able to race. Even though he had a difficult qualifying, as always, Max knows how to make up for that in the race. That is what Max does best.”
