Kimi Raikkonen topped the leaderboard in the second and final day of the in-season test at Silverstone. The Fin clocked a 1:30.665 on the soft compound tyre in his Ferrari, bettering Esteban Ocon’s time. Just like the Tuesday session, he racked up the most laps in his Mercedes, amounting to a total of 139. Other drivers also hit the century mark at the end of the day. The session, that was interrupted by a shower early in the afternoon, didn’t see any red flags.
Sergio Sette Camara made his Formula 1-debut at Toro Rosso. The Spanish Red Bull Junior-driver, driving for the European Formula 3 championship, lapped the track some 82 times and was ninth fastest. Pierre Gasly, another Red Bull protégé, was allowed to take control of the Red Bull Racing RB12 during the test at Silverstone.
It is mandatory for the Formula 1-teams to put a rookie-driver behind the wheels of the car, at least twice during the four days of in-season testing. That is the reason why Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo will not take part in testing. Both of them already had one day of testing in Barcelona. During the entire in-season test, Pascal Wehrlein drove a modified 2014-spec Mercedes W05 to do some testing for Pirelli.
After two useful days of testing at Silverstone, the teams are now getting geared up for the Hungarian Grand Prix, this will take place on July 24th.
