Verstappen wants to continue challenging Ferrari at Hockenheim

Last weekend, Max Verstappen battled fiercely with Kimi Räikkönen at the Hungarian Grand Prix, but there is not much time to dwell on that duell for the Dutch driver. The youngster is already focusing on what lies ahead: the German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring upcoming weekend. Much to the Dutchman's liking, there is only a week between the two races. “It is the best way to do it, straight after Hungary, before the summer break", says Max to Verstappen.nl.

There was no German Grand Prix last year, in Verstappens debut season in Formula 1. However, the track is not new to him. He racked up plenty of testing mileage in various junior categories as well as Hockenheim forming the backdrop for Max's maiden F3 victory. “I definitely enjoy the circuit. I haven’t driven there with a  Formula 1 car, but I have great memories from F3 and testing in general. It's always been good fun.” He acknowledges the good vibe at the grandstands: “The German fans are always very passionate about racing, and hopefully we can give them a great show.“

Looking forward to the race, there are a couple of things that spring to the youngsters mind: “The track is very demanding, especially the last sector. And when my dad raced here, when the track still had the long loop, it was always a great atmosphere there.” Thus the Dutch Red Bull Racing driver is looking forward to the race. “Hopefully our car will work and we can fight for a podium again. It will be interesting. We are getting close to Ferrari now, in the championship as well. We are definitely enjoying that battle, and hopefully we can continue that in Hockenheim.”
