Max entertains the audience at Jumbo Race Days: 'Nice to see this many people'

Published on 20 May 2018 by Raymond Snip

Day one of the Jumbo Race Days is on its way and Max Verstappen, together with his companions Daniel Ricciardo and David Coulthard, has already completed the first demo’s. Under the watchful eyes of the thousands of fans, the three drivers already created some nice shows and the sound of the screaming V8 engines sounded across the dunes. In addition, Max and Daniel entertained the audience racing an Aston Martin equipped with trailer. Which got wrecked.

"It is again great," says Max. "Once more, there is a large crowd, which is always beautiful and special. It is fantastic when you can drive with three Formula 1 cars. Something like that does not happen often and that makes it extra fun for me of course. "When asked about the importance of the Jumbo Racing Days for the Netherlands, Max answers:" There is no Grand Prix in the Netherlands, so you try to get as close to the fans as possible. It’s nice to see this many people."

Teammate Daniel Ricciardo also likes presenting a nice show: "Giving demonstrations is fun. You do not experience any pressure and stress and the fans can get very close. We can push the car a lot without having to worry about it." When asked if he will lay down some rubber, the Australian replied with a resolute: "Absolutely!"

In addition to the spectacular Formula 1 demonstrations, Max and Daniel Ricciardo also drove a caravan-equipped Aston Martin. It was the intention that Max’ caravan would survive for a planned second demonstration on Monday, but this worked out differently: "My caravan lost a wheel", Max explained. "I started to swerve left and right, causing the caravan to start jumping. Suddenly I lost a wheel and I had to drive a whole lap without a wheel. In any case, it was a lot of fun and I'm curious if they will still be able to fix it!"

Daniel Ricciardo’s caravan was a total-loss: "My caravan is still on the track," the cheerful Australian clarifies. "It was fun. one lap we just waived at the audience, which made it look pretty nice. That changed in the second lap. Max lost a wheel and I lost my toilet."

Later today, the two Aston Martin Red Bull Racing drivers will judge the caravans of the fourteen participants for tomorrow's Red Bull Caravan Race. What, according to Max, will they pay attention to? "Especially creativity. It has to look good and also fall apart easily, haha!
