Max after Jumbo Race Days: 'Seeing the many fans gave me goose bumps'

Published on 21 May 2018 by Raymond Snip

After two fantastic days full of action and spectacle, the Jumbo Race Days are over. Zandvoort Circuit, during the holidays, was filled with thousands of enthusiastic fans, who were treated to Formula 1 demonstrations, a crazy Red Bull Caravan race, WTCR Championship races and the attendance of the Jumbo Le Mans team. In addition, the total number of visitors, 110,000 people, was a 10% increase compared to last year.

Max says he had two great days: "Absolutely. Especially when you can be here with three Formula 1 cars, Daniel and David. You can put up a great show. Doing the donuts was fun, especially with a lot of smoke. This asphalt took care of that, so that’s just great."

Max also explains what the more than 100,000 people, who traveled to the Zandvoort Circuit, meant to him: "Everyone is so excited when they see a Formula 1 car. It sometimes gave me goose bumps, especially when you get out of the car and you hear everyone cheering."

Frits van Eerd, CEO of Jumbo Supermarkets, also looks back positively at the two-day event: "We are extremely proud that this year we have, once again, been able to offer our customers a fantastic event with their great sports heroes and to share our passion for racing with them. It was an even bigger party this year than the previous editions!"

During the weekend, Max Verstappen performed six times. On the day of Pentecost, he went out on the track with Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo and former F1 driver David Coulthard. Three Red Bull Formula 1 cars simultaneously on track, a unique moment for race fans. Verstappen drove in the 2012 RB8 and Ricciardo and Coulthard each stepped into their own 2011 RB7’s, and then went out with these Formula 1 cars to treat the audience to burn-outs and donuts.

Even more impressive than in previous years

The Jumbo Race Days at Zandvoort were even more impressive than in previous years. With not only an extraordinary racing program, but also more entertainment for the whole family and an exceptional culinary experience. All of this resulted in a record number of visitors.
