Alonso in 2019 not in Formula 1

Fernando Alonso announced today that, at the end of this season, he will retire from Formula 1 racing. After four disappointing years with McLaren, scoring not a single podium, the Spaniard believes it’s time to move on.

During his astonishing career, the Formula 1 Champion of 2005 and 2006, won 32 Grand Prix races, the last one in 2013. Alonso also started 22 times from pole position, finished on the podium 97 times and started, so far, in an impressive 303 Formula 1 races.

After his side step last year, into the Indy 500 and his win for Toyota in Le Mans, it is expected that he will now focus on winning the Triple Crown of motorsport. Alonso has mentioned the ambition to become the second driver in history, after Graham Hill, to win the Monaco Grand Prix, the 24 hours of Le Mans and the Indy 500.

Alonso will complete the WEC Super Season for Toyota next year but has not confirmed his participation in the IndyCar-Championship.
