Arrows officially announced the long-awaited appointment of John Barnard as technical director today. John Barnard, 50 years old and born in South Africa, recently took over Ferrari Design & Development Ltd., the English design and development facility of Ferrari. The contract that he now signed with Arrows officially starts on May 1.

Ferrari will decide wether to use the new 046/2 engine after the qualifying session for the Monaco Grand Prix. Before the last Grand Prix the team already announced the new engine to be used in a race but didn't persist with this for the San Marino Grand Prix. They will now make a decision to use the engine in a race for the first time. The new engine seems to be delivering 15 Hp more than the 046/1 making it a total maximum output of 765 Hp.
