During the second free session the track must have dried up. Michael Schumacher drove by far to the fastest lap time in 1:18.339, followed by Fisichella. The top 6 was completed as followed Hakkinnen, Ralf Schumacher, Villeneuve and Frentzen.

Jos id very well and drove to position seven in 1:20.512. Salo ended in position 15 with 1:25.449
