Ferrari half way the second day in the lead, Gasly in P5

Published on 19 February 2019 by Kees-Jan Koster

Ferrari was again the fastest team during the morning session of the second test day in Barcelona. Charles Leclerc set 1:18.247 in the SF90. Pierre Gasly, who took over from Max Verstappen at Red Bull, is half way the day in P5 with a time of 1:19.814.

Just like the first day, only nine teams came into action on the Spanish circuit. Williams still is not able to drive because the team is behind schedule with the new car.

At 9.00 AM sharp the first drivers leave the pitlane to start the second test day of the year. But soon they have to come in again because of a code red. The Toro Rosso of Alexander Albon is still in its out lap when the rookie loses control over his car, when exiting turn four.

Charles Leclerc has a good morning and places his Ferrari right from the start in P1. The Ferrari appears to be reliable, as the Monegasque is able to complete more than 70 laps in the SF90 this morning.

Kevin Magnussen ends the morning in P2. The Haas driver, on the yellow-marked C3 tyres, sets a 1:19.234, which makes him marginally faster than the Alfa Romeo driver Antonio Giovinazzi in P3. Lando Norris ends his McLaren just in front of Pierre Gasly.

Daniel Ricciardo ends with his Renault in P6, leaving the reigning World Champion Lewis Hamilton behind him. Albon and Racing Point driver Lance Stroll conclude the morning in P8 and P9.
