Irishman Eddie Irvine will continue his career with Ferrari in 1998 as well. This was announced by the team today with the following statement: "The Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro announces it has exercised the existing option with the Grand Prix driver Eddie Irvine in respect of the 1998 sporting season." The statement ended months of speculation about the second seat at Ferrari next to Michael Schumacher.
It is believed that the performance of Eddie and the good relationship between Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine were behind Ferrari's decision. Eddie Irvine is on his second day of a three day test session at Mugello. Today Eddie simulated a complete Grand Prix in a modified set-up which features a new weight distribution for the chassis in preparation for the Grand Prix at the Hungaroring.
