The Aston Martin Red Bull Racing team principal, Christian Horner, gives an update from Barcelona: “It has been a good, positive winter. We looked forward to test the new car on track. This week we are very much focussed on what we are doing, we want to learn as much as possible in these six days.”
There are three days this test week and another three next week. Horner continues: “We divided it fair and balanced. And the engineers prefer having continuity for a whole day with one driver in the car. With the kind of mileage these cars do today, you try to put as much as you can in those two half days. The flexibility and the ability to change the drivers halfway through the day is positive.”
Red Bull brought a lot of their people to Barcelona. Horner: “We can only drive with one car, but we bring more people to this test than at a Grand Prix weekend. That is predominantly because we run a night shift. There is another group of mechanics, they are asleep at the moment, start in the evening and work through the night. Besides that, the factory in Milton Keynes is connected in real time, and there they will also analyse the data.”
