Mixed results for Max at first round Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup

Max Verstappen has had mixed results during the first round of the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup on Circuit Zandvoort. The Dutchman finished the sprint race in P21, but during the main event managed to work his way back up to a decent eleventh spot. Which meant he finished in the points. During the online competition, spread out over twelve rounds, forty of the world’s best simracers battle it out for a total amount in prize money of two hundred thousand dollars.

After the start of the fifteen minute lasting sprint race, Max is P22, the spot he will be driving in for the major part of the race. Verstappen moves up one spot before the flag drops, putting him 21st in the sprint race. The Scottish sim racer Graham Carroll, racing for the Red Bull Racing Esports-team, wins the opening race of the championship.

Because the result of race one determines the grid position for race two, Max starts the main race from P21. The youngster has an excellent first round on which he manages to move up no less than seven positions. At about six tenths away, Verstappen has set his mind on the thirteenth spot. With about twenty minutes on the clock remaining, he takes that over from Frenchman Thibault Cazaubon.

With still ten minutes of racing remain, Max moves up one spot once more. During the move he comes into contact with German racer Martin Krönke and send him flying into the tyre wall. The eight-time Grand Prix winner eventually finishes the race in P11. He can look back at a nice catch-up race. In the main race, it’s the Briton Sebastian Job who takes home the victory. It’s a good day for Red Bull Racing-Esports as team mate Graham Carroll makes it a one-two.

Next week Saturday (9 May at 15.45 hrs) the second edition of the twelve round lasting Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup will get underway. The forty drivers will then race on Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
