During the second session Mika Hakkinen completed the fastest lap time in 1:22.935, followed by Jacques Villeneuve, Frentzen, Herbert, Alesi and Fisichella.

Jos ended the second session in 22nd position with 1:27.839. Jos could only drive one lap in the afternoon session because his engine blew up and couldn't get out on the track anymore in this session. The new engine for Mika Salo which blew up in the morning session was quickly replaced and ready for the afternoon session. In the end Salo managed a 14th position in 1:26.035.
