Same track, different conditions at Silverstone: 'Maybe it helps'

After the British Grand Prix last week, Formula 1 stays at Silverstone to contest the “70th Anniversary Grand Prix” at the classic English track this weekend.
The conditions forecast are unusual for racing at the Northamptonshire circuit, with temperatures up to 30 degrees. This, in combination with Pirelli bringing a softer selection of tyres, could be a recipe for a spectacular race on Sunday.
“These things could help, but I don’t know yet”, says Max Verstappen. “Mercedes are well ahead. The high temperatures won’t result in us making up one second in qualifying or a half second in the race. But I don’t give up. I’ll keep trying to beat them.”
During last week’s British Grand Prix, Max was able to take advantage when the Mercedes both suffered punctures. Not only did the Aston Martin Red Bull Racing driver bag a point for the fastest lap, he also moved from third to second in the closing laps.
“Last week had a surprising end so I just need to make sure I’m ready to capitalise when the opportunity presents itself. Mercedes has made a big step. I have accepted the situation and I’ll try to make the most of it. It’s not a frustrating place to be because I’m still fighting for podiums. Of course, we’re trying to improve the situation and make our car faster. We’re working hard.”
