Lewis Hamilton tested positive on covid-19, the Mercedes team announced today. The reigning world champion will therefore have to miss the Sakhir Grand Prix, which will take place this weekend on a short configuration of the Bahrain circuit.
In a statement, the Mercedes team said: “Lewis is now in self-isolation in accordance with the covid-19 protocols and the guidelines of the public health authority in Bahrain. Apart from mild symptoms, he is otherwise fit and healthy. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery.”
The Mercedes team has not yet appointed a replacement for Hamilton, although reserve driver Stoffel Vandoorne seems to be the most logical candidate for the seat.
