Two pieces of the Formula 1 1998 jig-saw puzzle have been put into place. At Spa it was announced that David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen will stay with the team in 1998. With this announcement rumours about Damon Hill or Gerhard Berger joining the team are brought to an end.

During the second free session, it kept raining. Therefore, most drivers were not able to improve their times. Barrichello however did very well with a third time. Jos and Salo did not drive at all during the second session because it was very wet.

Jos did not do any laps during the second session of the free practice. He stated there is no point in pushing in weather like this on a Friday. It would be crazy to risk the car by trying to set a quicker lap time. However, Jos was very pleased with the balance of the car.
