Most drivers improved on their lap times during the second session of the free practice compared to this morning. Fastest was Hakkinen, followed by Barrichello, Berger, Ralf Schumacher, Alesi and Frentzen.

Both Jos and Mika Salo were not able to improve their times from the morning session. Probably due to the fact that they mostly use only one set of tyres during the Friday free practice. In the second session, Mika was 0.03 sec faster then Jos. When we look at the total results of today, we see that Jos drove to position 18 and Mika to position 19.

The comment of Jos after the race was that indeed they only used one set of tyres. The reason for that is that they want to save the tyres for the qualification and the race. Today they had slight difficulties with oversteer in the car (which was not equipped with the optional side wings) but the team is working very hard to close the gap to the rest of the field.
