Max from Kigali: 'Here is massive potential'

Published on 13 December 2024 by Florence Cobben

Tonight in Kigali, Rwanda, Max Verstappen will be handed his trophy for winning his fourth Formula 1 World Championship. The FIA Awards Ceremony 2024 will be broadcast live from East Africa.

Prior to that, at the request of the FIA, Max completed his community service by attending the grassroots development program of the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC), which seeks to order to offer children (juniors) accesible entry into and opportunities in the world of motorsports.

The Dutch Oracle Red Bull-driver reflects: "In the whole world, everything is getting more and more expensive, so the more you can build (motorsports) in your own country, the more you make it affordable for kids. I think it's great to have that possibility, and I hope it stimulates all these kids so that they want to be a racing driver, an engineer, in the future."

Max explains: "It has massive potential and that is what I think everyone is working on... trying to make everyone very enthusiastic. It doesn't matter where in the world you come from, anything is possible. That's why I also think it's important that we're here. I'm very excited to see that hopefully in five to ten years, there are more people coming through (into motorsports)".

The livestream of the FIA Awards Ceremony 2024 will commence at 20 o'clock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Xnw48tfdsM
