2014 Zandvoort Masters Formula 3 car now on display in Max Verstappen Shop

Published on 22 August 2025 by Florence Cobben

In anticipation of the Dutch Grand Prix 2025, the Max Verstappen shop in Swalmen will exhibit a rare piece of motorsports history: the Formula 3 car Max drove when he won the Zandvoort Masters at just 16 years old. Alongside the vehicle, Max's original trophy, his racing overalls and his helmet are on display to marvel at up close and personal.

On the 6th of July, 2014, in a stunning display of skill, Max seized a dominant victory at the Zandvoort Masters. In spite of changeable circumstances, he lead from the start and held his position racing down the famous Tarzan turn. From then on, he cruised unchallenged to victory. Finishing almost 6 seconds ahead of the rest of the grid, Max became the youngest winner of the title in history.

"Winning the Zandvoort Masters is amazing, I'm over the moon!", young Max shared after his winning lap on the dune circuit. "It was a good race, and we had great speed. It's amazing to win here like this. And it's a great feeling to cross the line first in front of the home crowd, to everyone's cheers. Fantastic!"

Max walks trodden ground, as father Jos Verstappen also won the Masters title in 1993. 21 years later, the Verstappen name returns to the list of Zandvoort winners. Both times a Verstappen did a glory lap around the circuit, holding the Dutch flag in their hands. "Yes, that was discussed beforehand with all the Dutch drivers", Max explained. "When I saw them holding the flag a couple laps before the end, I had to laugh. When I started Formula 3 this year, I was already dreaming of winning the Zandvoort Masters, so I'm ecstatic."

Max's win marked a crucial turning point in his career. It established his reputation as a unique talent and became an important step towards securing his Formula 1 debut, just a little over a year later on the challenging Suzuka circuit. The track was coincidentally also designed by the man behind Circuit Zandvoort, Dutchman Hans Hugenholtz.

Visitors to the Max Verstappen Shop can, starting now – and in the next coming months – marvel at this iconic Zandvoort Masters car, together with the accompanying trophy, racing overalls, and helmet. It's a timely reminder of the moment that the motorsports world first became acquainted with Max Verstappen, the future four-time Formula 1 world champion.

Next to the F3 car, visitors can also view the Red Bull Racing RB12: the Formula 1 car Max drove to victory in the Spanish Grand Prix in 2016, making history as the youngest F1 winner of all time. Step inside to discover a one-of-a-kind collection of Max Verstappen memorabilia, that charts his career from karting to champion.

Beyond its other racing treasures, the shop boasts all the latest Max Verstappen merchandise and collections, including the Circuit Zandvoort collection. What could be a more perfect preparation ahead of the next Fomula 1 weekend?
