Jos and Renaud clinch Belgian Rally Championship: 'Very happy!'

Published on 27 September 2025 by Stefan Meens

Jos Verstappen and co-driver Renaud Jamoul have won the Belgian Rally Championship! Driving the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 car, the pair finished third in the East Belgian Rally. That result was enough to secure the title at the penultimate round of the championship.

“We are really happy”, said a delighted Jos, having just enjoyed a champagne shower on the podium. “This wasn’t the most interesting of rallies as we kept it save with our tyre choices. At the end we did have the right tyres and we were able to be faster, but we took it easy on the final stage. We wanted to secure the championship; that was the main goal today.”

In the space of a couple of years, Jos has taken the Belgian rally world by storm. “You always try to be as prepared as possible and have the right people around you. Renaud is of course very important in all of this. We enjoy working together and it’s great to fight at the front. The enjoyment is there, and the results follow. We are competitive, which also helps us enjoy ourselves.

The East Belgian Rally consists of twelve timed sections, spread across four stages:  Bütgenbach (6.29 km), Amel (14.96 km), Sankt-Vith (12.04 km) and Burg-Reuland (13.67 km).

Jos and Renaud enjoyed a solid start to the event with a P2, P3 and two P4s in the opening third of the rally. The duo continued this trend by finishing fourth, third, fourth and fourth on timed stages five to eighth.

“It’s tricky as it’s damp because of the overnight rain”, explained Jos. “But it went well. We chose rain tyres, which wasn’t the ideal choice, because we expected it to be wetter. But we’ll play it safe, and make sure we finish the event, as we aren’t a match for the Porsche”, referred Jos to Cedric Cherain’s Porsche 992 GT+. At the very front, WRC front runner Thierry Neuville lead the way in the Rally1 category Hyundai N20.

Ahead of the final four stages, Jos said: “The stages are better than this morning, but now we focus on getting to the finish. Being second or third in our class isn’t really that important. We’ll take it easy."

On the final four stages, Jos and Renaud clock three P3s in a row before finishing the Rally with a fifth place on SS12. The pair finish third in their class and thus claim the Belgian Rally Championship with a round to spare.
