Max P3 in Singapore FP1
Published on 03 October 2025 by Stefan Meens
Max Verstappen has opened his Singapore Grand Prix weekend with a third place in the opening Friday practice session. Fernando Alonso was quickest around the Marina Bay Street Circuit in his Aston Martin, followed by Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. Max’s Oracle Red Bull Racing teammate Yuki Tsunoda finished in ninth.
Liam Lawson is the first driver to take to the track and does so on the hard Pirelli tyres. Soon after, Max clocks his first flying lap, also on the hard compound. Meanwhile, there is smoke in the pitlane after Alex Albon’s brakes have gone on fire. After extinguishing the flames, the car is returned to the Williams garage where the team conclude Albon’s session is over.
As the lap times tumble, Max stays among the front runners with Alonso and Lando Norris (McLaren) toping the leaderboards on the hard tyres.
At the halfway point, it is fairly quiet on track, the proverbial calm before the storm of flying laps on the soft tyres. Lance Stroll is the first driver to clock a time on the red side walled softs. Leclerc is the first to set a competitive time at the sharp end.
With fifteen minutes to go, Max heads out on the softs and improves to second, a tenth of the pace setter Leclerc. Soon after, Alonso usurps the Monegasque to set the quickest time of the session. Max finishes his session with a run on the hard Pirellis, preparing for Sunday’s Grand Prix, therefore not improving on his earlier lap times.
