As was to be expected Jordan Grand Prix today announced the appointment of Mike Gascoyne as Chief Designer to work alongside Technical Director Gary Anderson. Until recently Mike Gascoyne was employed by Tyrrell as Deputy Technical Director but he quit with Tyrrell two weeks ago. The 35-year old Gascoyne said about his appointment: "I am very much looking forward to this new challenge and hope to play a key role in leading Jordan Grand Prix to victory."
Jordan's Technical Director Gary Anderson could use some help since he has missed the last two Grand Prix to work on improving the Jordan. The team will introduce new shorter sidepods to their Jordan 198 before the British Grand Prix on July 12. The long sidepods, used up until now, are said to be giving the car less downforce.
Michael Schumacher has admitted that he was at fault at the Canadian Grand Prix where he forced countryman Heinz-Harald Frentzen off the track while Michael exited the pit lane. Michael: "Having seen the TV pictures I have to say I did something wrong. The next time I am in that position I will be a bit further over to make some space. But people forget there was also no blue flag to warn me."
