In the warm-up this morning, David Coulthard and Ralf Schumacher gave the key. In a close finish the McLaren driver came off best with 1:44,812. Third place was for Mika Hakkinen, followed by Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher and Eddie Irvine.

Jos was more fortunate than previous days; he became 14th with 1:47,461, just 0,4 seconds behind his team-mate Rubens Barrichello, who became 11th.
