Several teams have continued with their test program. Ferrari started after a weekend full of parties, with testing at Mugello. The team concentrated on the set-up of the car. At Magny Cours, the teams of McLaren, Williams, Jordan, Benetton and Sauber were active. Although Coulthard was fastest, Montoya was close behind him in a Williams, and therewith showing his potential for a race seat next year. The second up till sixth time were all set by test drivers.

BAR has showed its interest in Damon Hill by offering a salary of 8 million GBP for a seat next year. However, Damon must be very satisfied with Jordan, since he turned down the offer. As we wrote some time ago, Volkswagen did not turn down the offer of Ford for the Cosworth factory. Therefore, the deal was finally closed yesterday. An other official announcement "that Ralf will join Williams" has still not been made. It therefor might be, that Ralf will not gain a seat at all for next season, with Juan Pablo Montoya as his biggest thread for a seat at Williams.

McLaren has been very secret the passed season, almost making a sport out of it. Although all viewers of last Grand Prix had already seen it, the team finally acknowledged that Mika Häkkinen had a breaking problem. It appeared that the brakes in the front hardly functioned.
