Just days after Stewart had announced that they would be able to start testing as early as this month the team has been forced to postpone the pre-season test due to a dispute with tyre supplier Bridgestone. Bridgestone has just announced that they will only supply a certain amount of tyres for specific venues. Chief designer Andy le Fleming: "We've made a big effort to get the car out early and now we'll be sitting around for ages without being able to test. We were planning to give it a shake-down test around December 20-21, just after we receive the first 1999 engine from Ford." A meeting between Bridgestone and all teams is planned to take place this week to hopefully end the dispute.
