After Honda's announcement to re-enter Formula 1 Toyota announced today to follow suit. Hiroshi Okuda, president of Toyota announced in Tokyo that Toyota will enter Grand Prix racing in 2004. No announcements were made about the way of competing. Okuda did announce that the team will be run from the Toyota Team Europe base in Cologne, Germany. At the moment this base is being used for the preparation of Toyota's World rally cars and the cars that are entered for the Le Mans 24H race. The confrontation of Toyota and Honda is nothing new however. In the United States the two already meet up in the Champ Car series and in Japan they both compete in the local GT series.
