According to British autoweekly's Autocar and Motoring News Jacques Villeneuve is set to leave Williams to race for his own Grand Prix team in 1999. Several times now Villeneuve has been linked to an F1 dreamteam created by Reynard, a British based racing car constructor and the British-American Tobacco (BAT) company. Villeneuve is reported to take a share in the new team.
The deal is said to be for 5 years and is worth about US$ 290 million. The new team, under the name of BA Team Reynard, will have engines supplied by Mecachrome (now Renault) V10's. Reynard managing director Rick Gorne admitted his company has been in discussion with BAT though nothing has been finalized. The magazines also suggested that the new team would attempt to buy Minardi at the end of this year.
